America's great hero George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the eldest son of Augustine Washington and his second wife, Mary Ball Washington. He belonged to a wealthy and affluent family. He completed his early schooling from his father and a local church sexton. His father died when he was 11. He had a strong desire to join the army, so at the age of 16, with the help of his step-elder brother Lawrence, he became a volunteer in the army.

In 1752, his elder step brother Lawrence died of tuberculosis , after which he inherited Mount Vernon, a large estate on the banks of the Potomac River. Along with this, he also started getting involved in local politics. In 1754, Virginia Governor Robert Dinwiddie sent Washington to head a military campaign to a war against the French. The campaign was unsuccessful, but Washington gained valuable military experience as well as the skills to become a leader.

In 1775, Washington was appointed as Commander in Chief of the Continental Army by the Continental Congress where he represented the American army in the fight against the British. Despite facing many
difficulties and being unsuccessful many times, he did not give up and took his breath by making America independent. After that he retired from the army and became strongly active in politics. 

In 1787, he was made the President of the Constitutional Convention where he played an important role in making the Constitution of America. In 1789, George Washington was unanimously elected the first President of America. He completed his two terms (1789-1797) as the President of America. During his tenure, he took very important steps in the interest of the country, due to which today America has become the most powerful and prosperous country in the world. He made Washington DC the capital of America. And also presided over the creation of a national bank and pensions system. He died on December 14, 1799, at the age of 67, at his home in Mount Vernon, Virginia. A wave of mourning spread throughout the country and on that day all the Americans paid tribute to their hero with great emotion.
